Commissioned in 1943, the Naval base has been home to carrier-based aircraft since its inception. Home to all the east coast fighters, Oceana is classified as a Master Jet Base. At the time of the 1999 and 2000 events, F14s and F18s easily competed and won the sound contest against the race cars.
