The West Indian manatee, also known as the North American manatee, is a large, aquatic mammal native to warm coastal areas of the Caribbean, from the eastern US to northern Brazil. Living alone or in herds, it feeds on underwater plants and uses its whiskers to navigate. Despite their populations peaking from November to April (the height December-February), we were very lucky to have seen one slowly swim into view within a few feet from our boat. It was early October.

Located at the corner of Duval and Greene Streets since 1937, Sloppy Joe's Bar was frequented by Ernest Hemingway who lived and wrote in Key West during the 1930s, spending his leisure time with friends at the historic establishment.
It's a must to sign and staple a dollar bill at Willie T's on Duval Street. A drink or two or three is also a must.
About the size of a jail cell, Key West's notorious "Smallest Bar" is a mere 72 square feet.
