TOTEM POLES
These monumental carvings found in Western Canada and Northwestern United States are made from large trees, usually, western red cedar, and the artistic results by First Nations and the Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest regions. Contrary to common belief, they do not worshipped or the subject of spiritual practices, but can symbolize or commemorate ancestors, cultural beliefs and heritages, clan lineages or even notable events. Additionally, they can unction as an architectural feature, serve as a mortuary markers for the remains of deceased ancestors, utilized as a means to publicly ridicule someone, or simply represent a historical narrative.
