Built by Axel Munthe, a successful Swedish physician (the personal physician of Queen Victoria of Sweden), his dream home and garden was contructed on the ruins of an ancient Chapel dedicated to San Michele, following a series of sketches made on a wall. With great views of the Bay of Naples, the villa is also home to numerous ancient artifacts, objects found by Munthe in Capri, Anacapri and elsewhere, some of which donated by friends. There are fragments of sarcophaguses, busts, Roman paving, marble and columns to be seen and enjoyed. Don't forget to rub the left haunch of the Sphinx of San Michele for good luck.
