NATIONAL ELK REFUGE

Established in 1912, The National Elk Refuge was created to protect habitat and provide sanctuary for one of the largest elk (also known as wapiti) herds in North America. Encompassing 24,700 acres (10,000 ha), the refuge is home to an average of 7,500 elk each winter. To the north is Grand Teton National Park.
